How is DataTalk different from Grafana?

Grafana is primarily a visualization and observability platform. DataTalk goes further by also providing industrial connectivity, data acquisition, processing and historian capabilities.

With Grafana, a typical architecture is:
PLC → data collector → database → Grafana

With DataTalk:
PLC → DataTalk → Historian + Dashboard + Alarms + AI

This means you don’t need to build and maintain the entire data infrastructure yourself.
Grafana visualizes your data. DataTalk connects, processes, stores and visualizes it.

Do I need a separate historian?

No. DataTalk includes integrated historical data storage.

You can collect live values from your machines and automatically store them for:
– trends
– historical analysis
– reports
– production monitoring
– performance analysis
– AI queries

There is no need to deploy a separate historian just to get started.

Do I need a database?

No additional database is required for the core DataTalk workflow.

DataTalk can manage historical industrial data while also connecting to external SQL databases and other IT systems when required.

This makes the initial deployment much simpler than building a solution from multiple independent components.

Can DataTalk connect directly to PLCs?

Yes. DataTalk is designed for industrial connectivity.
